| how does this set sound. is the wood nice. i don't really know much about it, but i heard it'ss like between maple and birch. any thoughts would be appreciated |

Oh poor guy, no one wants to answer...
Let me tell you, I've heard two beech customs and they were the best sounding drums I ever heard!! I fell in love with them from the 1st moment. They sounded very warm and soft, but that's partially due to the heads: coated ambassadors.
If you don't have a preference between birch or maple, and want a higher end kit, pick the beech customs. Beech is right between birch & maple, so you'll have a flexible sound (and they're cheaper than the two other).
The two drums I heard were actually the old beech customs, so I can only guess how the new absolutes sound. I think they shouldn't have upgraded them to absolutes, they sounded gorgeous already but now cost a lot more. |

I played a set of Beech Customs at the local Drum Shop. They had stock heads and they sounded great. Nice warm sound.
