| how/why is yamaha the only company that offers 4 complete wood choices? what the heck is falkata and where is it from? where did you get the idea of using bamboo for snares and why does no one else? is it true yamaha makes cars? is the entire yamaha corporation set up as one gargantaun company or do they split it up and keep the name on all the divisions? |

Falkata (used in the Stage Custom Advantage model drums) is a species of wood found in Indonesia.
To my knowledge, no other manufacturer uses falkata in their shells, and Yamaha’s brochures do not provide and details about it. The ‘Standard’ version of the Stage Custom Drumset does not include this inner ply of falkata, so I figured there must be a good reason for including it in the ‘Advantage’ model.
After some searching, I found the following information on the DrumWeb.com website article “Drum Woods in Detail” (http://www.drumweb.com/profsound1.shtml):
“The interior treatment of a drum will highly influence the tone. Lauan is a very stringy, porous wood that will lead to a rough appearance and not finish very well. The result would be a drum with little reflection of the brighter tones, essentially a very lifeless tone that doesn't carry very well. To counteract this, a ply of a dense, non-porous hardwood that will finish very smooth may be added such as maple, or again to keep costs down, a birch or Albasia falkata because they not only have the characteristics sought, but look attractive as well… Woods like Albasia falkata are used as a substitute for American hardwood maple because they will finish extremely well and are cheap.”
So, given that the SCA is made in Indonesia, falkata was probably an obvious choice. |

I am always interested in hearing why someone chose Yamaha when you could also have gone with Pearl or Tama drums for about the same price. I know I wanted to like Pearl, being an Ian Paice fan forever, and I can totally see myself buying a Pearl snare drum one day--- but when I began drum shopping, the deal with the Yamaha Stage Custom was hard to beat.
I bought Yamaha for several reasons:
the size was just what I wanted: 20" bass drum, small toms, very portable, yet full size enough to be a real drum kit.
Great price, and came with stands, hardware, bass drum pedal.
Set looked absolutely great in natural wood!
The drum hardware allows for perfect, easy positioning of toms. And if they can make motorcycle hardware well, drum hardware should be durable and reliable.
Sounded nice right off.
anyone else care to share their Yamaha reasons for purchase? _________________ Let that snare drum ring! |

I saw it, it looked beautiful, had the fusion sizes which I wanted, and sounded better than anything else. _________________ Yamaha SCA

Man your thinking is like mine. I just love Ian Paice's drumming and I have a 20" bass drum on my Yamaha Custom Oaks. I bought mine because the price was incredible and the craftmanship is superb. As for the sound. They are the best sounding kit I have owned. I had a Pearl kit before I bought the Yamahas. _________________ The most important things in life aren't things! |

| All i can say is that I once made the statment "Yamaha drums! What do they know about drums! They make jetskis!" so of course I ended up with one. I bought Mine because I thought that any company with a different suspension system, has a roster of endorsers that's just beyond belief with talent (like Peter Erskine, not just every nu-metal drummer that makes it), and was willing to to mix three woods in one kit has to be on to something. I also got my kit for 400$ less than it was usually. |
