|
|
I want to add some electric pads to my acoustic kit to add effects and loops to my bands music. My problem is that I really don't know how to go about this. What do I need in addision to pads (probably simmons) to do this? I would think that I would need some sort of brain (MIDI conversion device) and some sort of looping device (like a roland drum module or MC 500) but I really don't know.
P.S. ---> please no responses from 10 year old kids who are just guessing |

if you are wanting to replace say for the sake of argument your floor tom with an electronic kick what you do is this. first yes get a drum module. next replace your floor tom head with a mesh head. next get a trigger and place it inside your floor tom and connect it from there to your drum module. tada you have an electronic drum honestly you can connect a trigger to just about anything you want to hit since they work off of vibration. If you have any more questions let me know. _________________ I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad, the dreams in which im dying are the best i've ever had. |

I have actually considered doing exactly what you have proposed but with triggers on practice pads instead of actual drums. My real desire though is to use some simmons sdx pads to create weird effects and loops which I could play back during live shows (like Danny Carey from Tool). So what I'm asking is this, once I have these simmons what do I need to buy so I can not only make these simmons emulate drum sounds but also allow me to record and loop tracks that I could play back with the push of a button. I know I probably need a drum module to create the drum sounds but I'm not sure if all modules are compatible with all electric pads, I'm also not quite sure what module to get hopefully there are some that allow you to do both (loop and create sounds). I would like one that would allow me to customize my own sounds.
As you can see I know almost nothing about electric drums so any help is really appreciated.
Thanks,

my experiance in electronic drums is limited to my drum module. With my module you can create loops and homemade sounds on your computer then send them to an pcmcia card that plugs into the module.
Then you can specify a trigger that when struck will start that loop or make that sound.
As far as triggers being compatible with modules, I would just ask a sales person.
I have not had much experiance with drum machines so I really can't answer your questions there sorry :\ _________________ I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad, the dreams in which im dying are the best i've ever had. |
