You don't have to replace your reso heads, but it will improve the tone. Pinstripes over Ambassadors is a good combo.

I agree with snake. Remo Pinstripes with Ambassadors make a great sounding combination. As far as stock heads are concerned my experience has been they all pretty much suck! They are the absolute cheapest heads the manufacturer can get to keep the initial cost of the kit lower. There are a few exceptions to that rule, but VERY FEW! I suggest anyone buying a new kit that's not custom ordered or already loaded with decent heads to be prepared to get new ones! Factory heads are crap! Check out pictures of your hero's kits. See any with stock heads? Wink And you won't!
I've stated here and other forums many times that I like Remo heads but hate having to dig through the pile to find the ones that will tune! Remo has quality control problems! But I used Remo for years!
I LOVE Aquarian! And Evans makes some good stuff too!
I replace my batter heads about once every 3 to 6 months depending on how hectic the gig schedule gets. The resos get replaced about once every year. Even though you don't actually play on the bottom head, like guitar strings, after a while they get "flat" and don't resonate properly. So they get tossed!
