Well, I need to go buy some new snares as my younger brother got mad at me, and, well, the snares and heads on my snare didn't survive.

That being said, what difference does it make when having more snares wires? I've been using a 12-strand since I got the snare, and now that I need to replace it I was just wondering what difference it makes.

More snare wires will give you more sensitivity and snare response, but also more sympathetic vibrations. I've found that some drums work better with more snare wires than others. I have a set of Gibraltar 42s, Puresound 16s and some stock snappy 20s. The 42s buzzed uncontrollably on my copper snare, but sound pretty good on my stock Rockstar Custom snare. The Puresounds were dull on the RC, but sound great on the copper. You just have to experiment a little.

Took a kitchen knife, went straight through both heads, and then started twisting once he found the snares. So, both heads are punctured, and half the strands are broken while the other half are twisted and mangled beyond use.

Anyways about your question, I asked bassically the same thing a while back, maybe you can find that thread and get more info from their, but I think I got the same response as you so it might not be worth looking for it.

Can some of the strands be cut to make less buzzing (snare sound)? Does anybody do this?

I've heard that unless you want to detune the lugs near the snares, and all that jazz, then something like this works decently enough.

Heh, I just ordered that same set of snare wires yesterday! I'll try to remember to let you all know how well they work.
