Hey there, im looking for some new cymbals im looking mainly for zildjian either A or Z rock crashes and I was thinking about trading in my edge rock ride (now discontinued I belive) for a ping ride. I rember when I first joined this forum there were a few people that absoultly in love with their ping rides so I thought i'd ask a few questions

1) do you get a clear defined "ping sound"
2) what kind of bell does it have
3) what kind of overtones/undertones do you get when riding for long pirods of time
any help would be appricated.

Yes, ping rides give a clear and very "pingy sound," I looooove crisp sounding rides with no ringy overtones and that is why I love my zildjian A ping ride. The bell is nothing special, an average ride bell, but it souds pretty decent. You get very minimal overtones and undertones when riding it for a long time, that is what I like about it, the sound is always crisp.

I played a ping ride (Zildjian A) for over a decade. The above description is very accurate. Except, the thing with these is that you're going to get nothing but ping. That may be what you want, however, I've come to expect a little more versatility from a ride in my later days.

Cool

Okay, no such thing as a stupid question: How do you identify a cymbal as a ping ride? Is it in the description of the product or do you just know from the shape?

Thank you!

Zildjian makes the "Ping Ride" product.

I read the writing on the cymbal, because when you get that specific it is impossible to tell without playing it. You can generally tell a ride from a crash and splash from a ride, but you cannot tell what KIND of crash or ride or splash it is. The only exception I could see is a Sabian "Power Bell" ride in which the whole cymbal is pretty much bell. The drummer for Carlos Santana plays one and his ride sounds like a cowbell, it is uncanny!!

Is Dennis Chambers still playing with them? Because if he is, he's a Zildjian artist.

I have D. Chambers Zildjian sticks, so I take it he still does.

Oh, sorry. I guess it was ziljian's version of the power bell ride, the point is it sounded like a cowbell.
