ok so, as the title, says, i need some advice. also, please, could this only be answered by people who know rather than "i would think" please, as this is really only relevant to first hand experience.

i am currently between kits having played on my rockstar for a while, but i sold that as i needed the money. i have been offered the old pearl export. it's the model (i dont know much about this model) that has the wooden colour hoops on the bass drum, a wooden snare, but no ISS mounting. bassically, i know about the new export as i've been considering one for a long time (no TAMA fans complaining about the export please, i prefer the export). i played it at a band practice, and i was supprised by the sound. it had pinstripe skins on and it sounded amazing. really increadable. it comes with cases, harware, sabians, a stool, extra hardware and extra skins. so, i know i'm getting a good price at £600. but all i wanna know, is, the histort of this model, or wether it's any good. cos i know it sounded nice, and the hardware is strong, but is this kit too old to gig really?

lol ok well, fair point. and thanks for the info but, although i appreciate it, could anyone who gives their opinion try to back it up with some reason please? becuase i want to weigh up the good and bad points. also, i'd like to know more about this model of export as like i said, i know quite a bit about the others.

I had an older export. At around 5 or 6 years old the hardware starts to go. like on mine, three lugs broke. and because of this I'm never getting a pearl again.

Ive played alot of kits over the years, and an older export was one of my first kits...I thaught it sounded good at the time. But as I got older and started playing different music and hearing (and playing) differeant drums I realized how limited the exports tuning range is. They have a very definate sweet spot and have very odd resonance carachteristics (sp). I really recommend to you that you wait and get a slightly higher grade kit if your serious about gigging. The exports will sound good in some rooms but due to their poor wood quality will sound like crap in other rooms. Im not trying to poo poo on your choices, Im just trying to relay my experiance to help you out in the future. good luck!

Ive played on a export...also the OLD one, had a real nice sound but just needed the right heads and tuning you know?
I think its a good buy man, for all that, good deal!!!
Those older kits usually have a awesome sound as well, cause the older a kit is the drier the wood is and the sweeter the sound.
Just look after it, put on some new heads and administer some TLC man and itll serve you well no doubt!!

ok thanks dude, i appreciate everyone else's help but that's the most helpfull post yet. when i played the old one, it had remo pinstripes and i tuned her up and she sounded as nice as any kit i've heard. also, like i said the hardware is newer than the kit and is rock-solid. i think i'm gonna go for it, i can build fix and service most things under up the planet lol, so i'm just gonna give her a service, tune it up nice, and play 'em. thanks for the help dude.
