I think their higher end drums are some of the best you can buy, but I consider their lower end stuff to be pretty run of the mill.

Sonor has had it's ups and downs over the years. From the 1800's to now they have always been on the bleeding edge of innovation. Bytor is correct thier high end drums are great if you have the money. Sonor finishes are gorgeous!

If you've ever played a Sonor Signature 12 ply Shocked African Bubinga kit from the late 1970's, I can tell you it's a life changing experience. They are some of the most monstrous, gothic sounding drums ever!

I'm not totally into the current Sonor's, too much hardware for my taste, but i'm sure they sound great. I have a set from 1967.

The one thing I can't stand about them is the fact that they feel the need to be GDI's (ask an army or airforce person to define that one) and use slot lugs, rather than the four-sided one EVERYONE uses.

The best sounding set I ever heard was a set of Sonor Designer series. They're friggin heavy though. I would hate to have to carry them to gigs.

Danny Carey plays a Sonor Designer, if you want to hear one under microphones listen to Tool. They are dark, thunderous, heavy, and just plain great sounding.

A friends' father has a Sonor kit (which one, I don't exactly know, but he told me it was constructed with Mahonian Wood Shocked (or what is it again, that exotic wood type?) I guess he went shopping in the rain forest Wink ) The kit costed over 10k, and I know you can buy a wonderfull DW for that, but I can assure you that it was like the god of the drumkits.
So I decided to buy a sonor force 1001 but it's just good enough as a practice kit . So if you are buying a sonor, rob a bank first! Twisted Evil

Wow, Just when I thought no one was going to reply, I come back for a quick look and lots of replies. But yeh. I bought a Sonor force 2003 used, recently, for $600 canadian. Force being along the lines of Export, Rockstar. (thast what everyone in my school uses) They sound 10 times better then the Rockstar, and 50 times better then the Export, oh yeh and some dude uses a CB...100 times better then that. Even with its original heads, which were still on the kit when I bought it. A few months ago.

Danny Carey is one of my favourite drummers. I think his set sounds awsome. As for the lower end kits, they sound great too, compaired to other kits of its level.

But I have to ask, RUSTY do the designer kits actually sound as good as Thomas Langs do in his DVD or are they just sounding that good behind the sound board? Question

I don't know about Lang's but I played Lewis Nash's set of desigers once...they were even better sounding in person...

It sounds pretty good, but nothing like his designers. I went out and got them the day after I heard his. I like them but I recently made a small set out of some old Ludwigs and I am using them instead of the Jungle set, which I am going to sell. This is an older jungle set, from Germany (not Asia) and it is 100% birch.

I see, well, the only problem I have with Sonor so much is their pedals, I dont like, the Cobras I think are better. Then again, pedals are a players specific tastes, what are your tastes, everyone.
