hey fellas,
I need your advise and your help once again.
I recently bought a DW 5500 TD Delta II.
Now, I understand why DW is not a beginner's set - There's no manual!!!!
So, I was completely confused on how to set up my stand until I checked out drumcentral.com which has detailed instructions on how to set up a standard hi hat stand.
However, a couple of questions still linger:
There are two rods for DW hardware...like this....

Originally, the clutch was assembled with the longer rod.
Now that I have installed that inside the hi hat, I don't know what the short rod is for...does anyone know?
Is it just a spare or are we supposed to use both rods?
Thanks a bunch |

I think there's an error with the link.
I'll try to fix it as soon as I can.

the picture doesn't work, but the link does.
the picture has 2 rods...one long and 1 short....
Is one spare or preference? or are both required?
Any help is appreciated...

I going to say preference. Some guys like it higher, some lower. Never seen a hi hat with two spindles. I am sure one of the guys can back me up, or tell me I am dead wrong......again. |

Lion,
The two different length rods are to accommodate higher (longer rod) and lower (shorter rod) high hat setups. Use the longer rod to move your high hats up really high. Use the shorter rod on a lower high hat setup so you don't have a lot of "extra" rod sticking up above your hats.
DW was just trying to be thoughtful. Nice of them, huh? |

Yup, for confirmation check out the info at the DW hardware site. Bottom of page addresses your exact question.

Hey, Lion, the clutch is able to become a "drop clutch." With your previous question in mind, do you understand how/why to use it? (and do you have the other part to make it functional?
