what is your priceange? if its only $400, then the sonor would probably be good. ive never personally heard one, or actually seen one, but it offers lots of features offered on the Force series and is made by Sonor, so its probably good. if you can scrape together the cash, then the Sonor Force 1003 would probably be a better bet as an entry level kit.
and as for "rock and metal tones" there really is no such thing. if you want what all the big rock and metal artists are using, then youll have to get a $3000 custom maple drumset. the Force 1003 is made of 9-plies of basswood, which is essentially a fake maple... it has more low end resonance, so if you want a nice low sound then that would be a lot better than the 505. _________________

if you can spend $1000 dont look at swingstar, the Force 503, or even Force 1003 or 2003.
you can afford much better. if you still want Sonor, get the Force 3003. a nice kit. if you want tama, get the Rockstar Custom. probably the best value for any kit, at any price range are Pacific. you can easily afford either the CX ($899) or MX ($949) series (basically the same. MX has satin finishes with matching bass hoops.) it may also be worth your while to spend a little extra to get the top o' the line LX ($1197). it has lacquered finishes, and a double bass pedal, and "premium" drumheads. basically, all of the pacifics are chock full of features that you wont find on ANY kit of that price. _________________
