i have a set of lugwigs i bought back in the mid 80s played for bout 6 months and then gave em to my uncle they,ve been up in his attic for many years, now that i have em back i have refinished almost the whole set and i would like to know what line they are and possibly the year
i dont have any pictures of them yet but i will explain what they look like
the drum sizes are
13,14,18,and 26
the finish is called:black panther leatherate wrap, olive n green badges
the inner shells have a partical grey finish and all the lugs on the drums are single hour glass shaped, the base drum spurs are the arched type
and the plate that mounts the rack toms isnt like any other ive seen on other ludwig sets its just a flat plat with 4 bolts with a stem sleeve and wing nut it is actually pretty *Holy Censor, Batman* sturdy, and also here is the serial# off one of the toms if that helps:1296212
thanks inadvance for any help
RJ
BTW:i have done exclusive searches on google, vintage drum, and ebay and still i havent found anything that matches what i have

It is hard to say exactly what you have there. You are sure that you bought these brand new in the mid-1980s? If so, you most likely have a version of the Ludwig Rockers series drums sets. If it has the Blue/Olive shell badge like you say it should be an early 1980s set.

The main thing you have to look for is the lug design. if it is the Ludwig Classic lug design, it would be from the early 1980s. If it has the Standard-style lug design, it is from the 1988 Ludwig Rockers series. (The Standard-series lugs were taken from a cheaper Ludwig line from the late 1960s/early 1970s.)

well, Ed they sounded great with only single deads on them at one time
when there finished they will have double heads on them except for the floor tom, im thinking on going with emperor clears and ambassador clears configuration, and if that doesnt sound good i might try the clear CS black dots, power stroke 3 for the base drum and ebony for the front,

GCG,i bought this kit used in the mid 80,s i did a little more researching on them and found that they first offerd the panther finish in 71 and used it up until 79 now the lugs look like they were used on there maple sets
according to pictures i found off the web i dont think they were used on the rocker series, and besides if memory serves me rite the rockers always had the black and white badges and the standerds line had there own unique badges as well,
RJ
