Hello all,
I have the chance to buy a Mapex Pro M in fusion sizes second hand for a very good price (around 400 pounds/$600 for shells and hardware).
I was just wondering what everyone's opinions are on this kit as a starter set. I've been advised to buy a little bit better than the standard run of the mill starter sets, and this seems to be a very good price for a Maple kit.
Also, does anyone know if they still make add on drums in the colour Coral Crystal (as shown below)?
Thanks in advance for any info or opinions on the subject |

how old is the kit? becuase if its a few years old it may not be all maple. im no expert but ive heard they just recently switched the m and pro m lines to maple. when that happenned, i have no clue.
as for the add ons, i checked and they are no longer made in that color (according to only one website) buts you shoul still be able to find them from like a store closout, or they may still be produced (not sure), or you can always try ebay _________________ "Let he who is free of sin throw the first rock and I shall smoketh it."

You might find that Midwestpercussion.com MIGHT still have them.. they had alot of older kits left when the 04 line came out.
That or Ebay. _________________ Mapex Mars 6 piece - Pert Paragon Cymbals |

| I think you'll find the kit is basswood with one outer ply of maple. It will still be a nice sounding kit- basswood is similar in sound to birch |

As a Kit? Its great. As a starter kit? Its amazing! If you really want a high quality kit for a little bit less, get the regular M series. The new ones are all maple, only with 9 plies instead of the Pro M's 7 plies. You have a good price on the Pro M though, so either one would be a great start for you. The only problem I can think of (with buying that particular kit) is that component drums will be hard to come by, as that color is discontinued. Also, the kit you're looking into isn't 100% maple, but it'll do the trick. _________________ (///TWITCH///)

| I purchased the pro-m standard kit last x-mas. Great sounding set of drums. I also, (un)fortunately purchased the coral crystal color, but I am still quite happy with that decision. It was my first kit as well and I couldn't be happier with them. (Unless someone has any idea where to buy any component drums in this particular color, in which case, e-mail me and I may be happier then:D) Great choice. |

i had the same problem, but i'm a little luckier...
they don't make m's in emerald green any more, though they still make pro m's in emerald green. so maybe the still make your colour, but in the saturn or orion series maybe? _________________ I hate you, Milkman Dan. |

Saturn and Orion have even less color options, strangely. At least I'm pretty sure that's the case. _________________ (///TWITCH///)

But as for that drum set, i would buy it if its like brand new only, if its used forget about it its too much. _________________ www.tattoodles.com

PM me pics, Mine is older(from the mid 90') it was 9 ply Maple. Awsome sounding kit.
If the one your looking at has the connecting lugs then its the older version fromt he mid 90s. Nothing wrong with its quality at all. I payed 500 flat for a 6pc with just enough hardware to mount it. I got a killer deal looking at other sets also... if I had the 3k I would be all over this black and blue DW with black hardware/lugs at the local guitarcenter. _________________ Mapex Mars 6 piece - Pert Paragon Cymbals |
