Alright, I found this Catalina Club set in White Marine on eBay. This is what I really want.
Should I bid on it? What are your opinions?

That's a beautiful little kit, but like I told Sauren when he asked about them a couple of months ago, the really long tension rods would concern me, somewhat. It seems like it wouldn't be all that difficult to accidentally bend one. If you will be the only person handling the drums, I'm sure you would be aware of them and be careful of that, but it doesn't seem like it would be all that difficult for someone "helping you" load up your drums to grab a tom or something by the rod and bend it. And those long rods might not be so easy to replace. You'd probably have to go through Gretsch.
Anyway, it looks like a great little kit, but unless you will be the only one handling the drums, the rods would concern me. Maybe I'm just paranoid, though. |

| yeah, the long tension rods seem to be of concern here. I asked my drum teacher about it though, and he said that probably wouldn't be a problem. Ill ask him again. |

It very well might not be a problem. I've seen the same type of rods on other brands of drums, and I doubt companies would do that if it's a problem. It's only my opinion, anyway, and I'm probably just paranoid. It's a nice enough looking kit to take the risk if the price is good. If that's what you want and you've got the dough, I'd just say the heck with it and go for it. It's not like you wouldn't be careful with them. Just don't let anyone pick up the bass drum by the rods! |

those rods could easily be ordered by guitar center, you could just go buy some and keep em round just in case any do break, but still i wouldnt keep something like that from buying a kit.
thats an awesome set, especially for the price its at, i say go for it _________________ "Let he who is free of sin throw the first rock and I shall smoketh it."

| The only con is that it doesnt come with hardware... Only floortom legs, bass spurs, and tom mount. BUT! I have hardware, and if I get it for cheap, Id have a lil extra bread to kick around. |

the trick with ebay is to bid like with only a minute left, or else you just drive up the price along the way. thats how i got my set. _________________ "Let he who is free of sin throw the first rock and I shall smoketh it."

Thats what i always do. Neat Ebay trick theres a delay after you bid until other people see your stuff. Bid with like 45 - 15 secdonds left and your golden. Keep the place bid window open seperetly along side the main page for best resaults. I said i was never going to lose an auction last second after i lost a Robert Englund autograph. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/spironoise |
