Anone have any info on USA Maple vs. Renown Maple?
I read Gretsch's website and found that the renown shells are from Asia and the hardware is not as heavy duty. Is there more to it than this? Is there a serious sound difference to warrant the significant increase in cost? In short, is the difference small enough that I should put my extra money in cymballs and stuff and get a renown and swallow my pride that I didn't get a USA maple set, or is there a big enough difference that I will kick myself for not waiting a while longer and saving my dough for the set that "could've been"? Thanks in advance for your time and answers folks.

I say get the USA maples. At least you know you're getting real Gretsch drums. _________________ "Yeah, well, you know, that's your opinion, man..." |

I have Maple Renowns . The maple plies are thicker, I believe, on the USA Maple. They also have the satin finish on the drums. You'd have to play both types to really notice a huge difference. I have the older series of Renown, before they started manufacturing 5 lug rack toms. I'd personally go for a USA Maple though. There are more options for ordering with them. |
