Anyone got a Slingerland radio king snare? What does it sound like? Would you recommend one?

i dont have one, but i have used one in the past it was a 5x14 it had a very warm sound and it was loud, actually my second snair is a 65 slingy 5 1/2x14 6 lug w/a remo legacy head on it, giving it that warm vintage sound......

Radio Kings are great drums. Possibly some of the best drums of all time. The prices for the really old vintage ones are way up there. If you've got a deal on one...get it. If not, then I'd say check into another single ply shell drum like the Craviotto or Noble & Cooley SS. You might like them better for modern musics as the Slings are going to have a very, very, very warm sound as their bearing edges were probably the least sharp from all the vintage manufacturers.
But then again....that sound might be exactly what you're after. Any and all of them will work for classic rock or new country.
later,
m

They are awesome!! I used a 6.5x14 steel my last time in the studio. If you want to hear what it sounds like just go to
www.purevolume.com/leahstargazing
just d/l the song "runaway 2k4" it's the only track on there that i played the slingerland on. My suggestion, if you have the money to purchase one go and do it, you wont regret it
