|

First of all, I'm using a Tama Rockstar Custom kit, a very nice one, but I can barely hear the kick drum. So I'm thinking about a trigger. Do I HAVE to use a module to get the sound, or plug straight into the board for some extra "thwap"?
Also, where would I place it? Anywhere around the edge? About an inch or so in? Where? |

Quick answer. Yes you need a tone generator to create the sound and a trigger, to trigger that sound.
The setup I have is a Pintech Red Hot trigger running thru an Alesis DM-5 with the outputs running into the board. The trigger is taped right to the batter head of the kick about 2 inches from the rim. With proper adjustments in the tone generator you can place it just about anywhere.
You can mic your kick drum, which would probably be a bit cheaper.
My kick is micced and I can balance a sharp attack sound from my DM-5 plus the fat kick ring from the drum itself.
Very powerful sound.
I can also use just the mic, depending on the situation.
Hope this helps. |
