So I have been playing drums for about 10 years and new situations and desires are leeding me towards getting an electric kit. I need it for a few reasons. 1) Silent practice, 2) Sampleing, 3) experemntation.
I origionaly went looking into getting an SPD-S being that it can do what i needed right out of the box, but it was not all i was interested in for a practice unit. I want to be able to practice in a regular form/drum setup instead of a pad.
Kits i was looking at was the roland V-compact, and the roldand V-tour kit.
Would it be possible to use this kit to do sampling. I want to be able to import my own custom sounds, even things i record myself. If possible what is needed along with the soundmodule.
Thanks for any replys and please be therough with your answers, i am new to electronic stuff for the most part |

| Unfortunately, none of the Roland kits do sampling. If you wish to import your own sounds, you will do better with a Ddrum kit or the new Yamaha DTExtreme IIs. Both of these are significantly more money than the V Compact however. |

First off, I'm not affiliated with Clavia, Roland, or any drum/cymbal manufacturer. I know what I know from using, testing, reading, and hearing about modules.
If you want sampling you need a ddrum3. The ddrum3 isn't manufactured by Clavia anymore and are becoming very hard to find used. Only 600 ddrum3 modules were sold due to their high price, however it -IS- the best realistic sounding e-module ever made. If you can do without onboard sampling then go ddrum4. This is the 2nd best realistic sounding e-module ever made. Both the ddrum3 and ddrum4 use real sampled drum sounds, not synthesized like, for instance, the Rolands. You should be able to do midi out to your PC or sampler from whatever module you buy. You could go that route but your latencies will depend upon a # of things. Oh, I forget to mention that you can freely download samples of kits and individual drums from Clavia's site and load them into the ddrum4. They have samples from Simon Phillips, Kenny Arronoff(sp?) and others to choose from. So, there you have it. _________________ Kit: Starclassic Maple in Brown Fade; ddrum3 Turbo brain and pads; Roland TD-6V; Roland CY-8 crash, CY-15R ride, Pintech China ecymbals; Sabian & Zildjian cymbals; Tama and DW hardware. Playing for 27 years. Really! |
