I'm looking at buying a 5x 14 dw nickel snare. I played it at guitar center and it was amazing. They didnt know much about it and its not in the catalog. Can anyone help me out? What is the lowest price you have seen gc wants $300 for it.
Thanks |

Hello,
I can't help you out on your poll as I'm not that experienced a drummer to have played each of those kits but anywho, I do own a dw nickel snare. I got it at GC and bought it for $260. $300 is too much to pay!! They always discount stuff for me. BTW when shopping at GC, NEVER pay sticker price for ANYTHING. Always haggle with them, the sales guys do have some wiggle-room and would rather make a commission off you at a cheaper price than no commision at all.
As far as the snare goes, I hadn't ever seen it before and one day I was just banging around at the 'ol GC drum shop and thought it was great. I have been playing on my PDP maple snare for a while and although it's great I wanted something with a bit more punch to it. SNAPPY, like a marching snare. I thought the nickel fit the bill for a good price. I am puzzled by the badge dw logo, written out "drum workshop" instead of just "dw". ??? In any case I really don't know much about it or what known drummer might favor it but I thought I'd put something in for you.
For the record I own a PDP kit. I've only been playing for 5 months now and thought that dw's were a bit too spendy for my skill level. When I'm ready I'll get a set. Every now and then GC will have a dw kit or 2 deeply discounted so I'm sure they'll have one that I like.
later,
lynnae

Thanks for your response. the same exact thing happened to me. I walked into gc and played the snare and realy liked it. Its got a nice ring to it but not too much. And to answer your question as to why there is not the dw logo, its because it is not in any series (collectors series, etc.) its a special made snare. It is not actually a nickel shell. It is black nickel plated steel. Anyway, its a great snare. _________________

| I picked one up yesterday, kinda unsure about the purchase because of the inability to find simular one to compare $. I think it is actually a Pacific before they changed the logo because it was built in Mexico. |

This is only if its the old nickel snare drum ( if you look on the badge its made in mexico.)
Its nickel plated steel and should be $199. If they charge you any more than that they're ripping you off. We're clearancing them out. New models came out this year that are cast (whatever metal you can think of) and are starting at $499. Questions e-mail me. |

| oh. sorry. Any DW metal snare is made in mexico. They don't do anything metal in the states due to requirements by the EPA. If you want a metal US drum. Pay for a black beauty. (which ludwig can only make so many a year due to the EPA) The new DW metal snares ( metal cast) is made in mexico then finished in the US, so they call it made in the US. As for "lynnae" pulling the wiggle room on GC pricing cause of commission or whatever. Remember this. Mom and Pop shops don't haggle and expect you to pay for the service, maybe because no one is on commission. Those drum guys put up with a lot garbage. Especially when you bring your 10 year old into jam on kits for an hour while you oogle over Les Paul you can't afford to buy. Pay for service, not for price. Then see what they do for you later. If you don't care, then do what you gotta do. Its good to have a GC drum's at your back. That's how i got a new DW kit for 70% off list on clearance. |
