just received my custom order a few days ago to match the rest of my old kit from the 70's. matches perfectly. it's 6.5 X 14, maple plus shell, 20 split lug, lightening throw.
i'm wondering if anyone can advise on which head to put on. it came wtih a single ply gretsch head which i don't like because it's really loud and sustainy and echoey.
thinking about either remo emperor (was on my last metal snare) or remo powerstroke 3 (never tried it before, but reccomened by several).
i play jazz. i'd just like to subdue the ring a little bit and have a nice fat, deep, warm, controlled sound.
any thoughts?
sorry if this is the wrong place to post this...
thanks |

I'd try an Evans Genera head. It's a 10mil single ply with a 3mil ring built in on the inside to muffle the ring and quiet things down a bit. It still gives allows some ring in the head to help still project the sound, but it controls the rest rather well and retains a fatter sound. _________________ So with that title, do I Godwin every thread now?
