Wassup people, I just found this site so I thought I'd post a message to "Hello" to my fellow drummers around the world!

My first question is this - What is your opinion on endorsement deals? Does it annoy you to find high profile players plastered all over the pages of drums mags etc, effectively saying "hey kids, buy this gear! It's great!!"

Hey, there, and welcome to the forum!

I doesn't really bother me at all that companies endorse drummers (or rather, drummers endorse companies). In fact, if you hear a certain sound from a big name artist that you want as part of your own pallate, it can be helpfull to know what they're playing. I do think it's bad though, when drummers base their purchases on what add looks the nicest.

I agree wholeheartedly with Saur. I think that endrosements benefeit the drummer, the company and the consumer. I bet you wouldn't mind endorsements if you were being given boxes of Zildjian sticks and boxes of remo heads whenever you needed them. I also find it very helpful to be able to find the cymbal you hear your favourite drummer playing. By the way, i like your name, very witty.

I agree, it would be cool to get sent boxes of sticks/heads etc. I get thru sh*t-loads. Especially sticks. And it's not cheap, as you all know!
It's just annoying when people like us, who struggle to afford to pay for new gear, playing countless gigs with absolutely no supprt from any manufacturer, then when/if u find success with yr band and u can start afford to pay for decent stuff, the big companies start running in offering all sorts of deals. If that happened to me, I think I'd take great pleasure in telling them where to go.....
Maybe I'm too cynical for my own good!

Hey someone else from the U.K at last! Welcome!
I think endorsements can be cool sometimes because drummers who don't know about that many makes and what they sound like. They can listen to a drummer and see the ad and think "hey that sounds cool, i should check that out."
Does what i just said make sense?

I agree that its nice to know what people are playing to find the sound you're looking for...that's what I did when deciding what kind of splash I wanted to buy. But keep this in mind when looking for new gear...most of the stuff pro's say about their gear is making them a large salary. The best place to get advice on gear and such is your fellow drummers and from playing the gear in a store.
