I've got a beautiful set I acquired from a friend of mine a few years ago, and was wondering if you guys could give me some insight as to what exactly it might be worth? I'm running into financial troubles and unfortunately I think this might be something I may have to let go.

I believe it's from the mid 80's, possibly late 70's. Cherry wine, all original hardware. One of the double bass has a mark from where one of the toms had hit it, and one of the fasteners for the head tighteners connected to the bass drum has broken off, but other than that they're in immactulate condition. You can find the broken part for about 5 bucks on ebay.

It's an 11 piece, which I'm assuming was the mack daddy of the superstar series. Includes the cherry wine deep snare.

Has a remote tama hi-hat pedal system, 6, some counterweighted original tama stands (they're beefy) and a set of medium grade zyldjian cymbals.

So any idea what it's worth approximately? I don't want to end up letting this go for a lot less than it's worth.

Thanks for your help in advance,
and here's a pic:

EDIT: Almost forgot, has a complete set of original carrying cases in perfect condition.

I also have a vintage tama superstar kit but don't know what they're worth. Mine aren't nearly in such good condition and I don't have as big a kit. Mine is 2 bass drums, 3 mounted toms (12, 13, and 15) and a 16 floor tom as well as a snare. Great kits. You could always just sell off half of it and still have a killer set Smile

That is a knockout kit! I noticed there are a lot of web resources for that model.

There is the superstar group (tons of info)

And this guy: http://www.davefender.com/

Who restores Superstars and has a ton of them.

Awesome Kit!

The best way to calculate what they are worth is a mathematical equasion?

First of all, figure out what it would cost you to buy a new "equivalent" kit if they had to be replaced?
Second, ask yourself if you would be willing to sell them for 60% less than the price of your replacement kit?
Viola!! Hence the net value of your "superb" kit!
It happened to me and this was "MY ANSWER"

It's hard to make an equivalent to these for three reasons:

The shells (IIRC) were 9mm birch. They had some serious projection.

And the mahogany outer finish, you'd have to start with a natural finish Gretsch renown, but it's not the same.

The Tama titan hardware was heavy and bulletproof.
