Our church bought a new Pearl Export set and it came with a Planet Z 3 cymbal pack. The high-hats and a crash ride. So until we purchase a crash...
I'm having trouble getting the right sound out of it. I can get a good ride sound, but how do I get a good crash sound? I've tried hitting the edge of the cymbal with the edge of my stick but it's a really low/ringing sound unless I tighten my grip. What's the trick? |

Honestly, Planet Z's are not good cymbals at all, that's probably the problem. I've noticed that crash/rides tend to be more on the ride side, so it might be hard to get a good crash sound out of them _________________ "You can be smart and happy or you can be stupid and miserable."

Thanks for the reply...
I guess when we get a new crash we can set that off to the side as a ride cymbal.
What kind of crash do you recommend for the set we have to mix in well? I have a zildjian thin crash here at home, but it makes the same noise as the crash/ride at church, that low ringing sound, but then again I don't have felt washers on it... lol. Just need one that I don't have to tighten my grip on and can hit with a loose hand and get that good crash sound.
Zildjian? Paiste? Sabian? |

| actually if you can do it right, the high hats sound very nice, if you can make it have the right sound, ride/crash sucks noodles |

No trick. That's what crashing a ride sounds like. It sounds much more acceptable from the audience though. |
