Which would you pick?

I have a (slightly) flexible budget of $2000 ish, and wondered what you guys think. btw, this also includes money for hardware, cymbals, etc.

i've got a gretsch catalina club mod

it's a great sounding kit for the money (£400)

I've also got a load of big dog hardware. It's stood up to a beating so far and it's pretty cheap so maybe that could fit into your budget.

sweet deal.

I think I am going to go with the Catalina Maple because that is more my style, and I'll be able to get better hardware, etc.

Thanks for the input though.

Yamaha! Awesome set for the price, and Yamaha has really great hardware that comes in one of the tour custom packages. You won't regret it if you go the Yamaha route. Gretsch is good too, but I think the Tour customs are a notch up, and I wouldn't even consider the Tama out of those three.

I've tried the Superstar & Catalina Maple which were side by side and to my ear, I prefered the Gretsch but before going with Gretsch, I'd take a closer look to the MAPEX PRO M. The problem with the Gretsch is it miss add-on toms & finish. If ever you want to add, for example, another tom or floor toms, you'll be screwed with gretsch but not with Mapex and also Mapex offer a lifetime limited warranty on their shell and also Mapex offer a promo which consist of a BP snare when you buy a kit with certain config.
