I recently got a Gretsch Catalina Birch kit with EVANS G1 (single ply) heads.E-mad on the kick.I would like more bass/mid-range.I havent bought drum heads since the 90's.I used to like 'pin stripes'.I dont consider my self 'brand loyal'.Whats out there!?

i have the catalina ash myself. I use the EMAD 2 on the kick..great sound..and i got pinstripes on the toms..good sound. There are also Evans EC2 heads..i hear they are good. But honestly, sound bites wont help that much i dont think. Different shells have differnt sounds as you know. maybe someone with a kit like urs will chime in. But id say try pinstripes..I have them on both my kits.

I have Remo Emperors on my Catalina kit and they open up the sound of the birch shells. I also tried pinstripes but the open sound of the emps sold me. Evans G2’s should be close to the emps if you prefer the Evans brand.
