Muhtadi, the founder of the Muhtadi Toronto International Drumming Festival is hosting a drumming/dance workshop to Baro, Guinea.

Some details:

Amara Kante invites you to participate in an unforgettable journey to his village in, Guinea, West Africa. Located in the Hamanah region of Guinea; it is the heart of traditional Malinke music, and the seat of Malinke culture. In Baro, you will experience hours of Malinke rhythms, studying the music, dance and songs of this region in their proper cultural context.
Your instructors will include a variety of Guinean artists: Grand Master Mansa Camio, Amara Kante?s celebrated teacher, dancers from Guinea?s national ballet and many others.
In addition to daily drum and dance workshops, participants will observe local festivities, visit neighbouring villages, and even take part in Dunumbas, for which this area is renowned.
On weekends participants will have free time, and the option to visit the nearby city of Kankan where students can purchase local arts, crafts, instruments and clothing, as well as enjoy the local nightlife.

Travel Details & Visas
Participants will rendez-vous with Amara in Paris on Friday, December 29th, 2006. From there we will fly to Bamako, Mali, where we will remain overnight before being shuttled to Baro via Kankan. We should arrive in Baro by New Year?s Eve and bring in the new year Malinke style!
In addition to a valid passport, two visas will be required for this trip (Mali, Guinea). The cost of the visas have been included in the price of the workshop (specially negotiated price) and will be arranged once your workshop space is confirmed. Please contact us Muhtadi Productions to arrange your flight as we receive a group discount.

Meals & Lodging
Workshop participants will receive three meals a day in Mali and Guinea-continental breakfast, a freshly prepared lunch, and dinner (African style) accompanied by fresh fruit and desert. Participants will be responsible for their own meals during excursions, but meals will be available for a reasonable price. We will provide participants with two 1.5 litre bottles of water at the beginning of the workshop-additional water, and other refreshments can be purchased in the village.
Participants will be immersed in the community for the duration of the workshops, as all accommodations will be within the village. Please notify us if you have specific shared housing/bunking requests.
