Um.. i do not know much about slingerlands drums, but i went to my local musicians pro shop today and noticed that they have imported some new slingerland kits. I was saving up for a Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage, but now i am taking Slingerlands into consideration. The guy told me about their history and it was a tre cool series kit that went for AUD$2,000, but offered it for 1,500 without cymbals. What are your opinions, are they nice kits? Or should i just stick with the Yamaha?

i would definitely go with the Stage Custom... the Tre Cool "Spitfire" model is pretty much your run of the mill entry-level kit with some upgraded hardware and bigger drums. plus its only a 4-piece, and really wouldnt work too well for anything but rock because the toms are so large. if you really want drums that look like Tre's but dont sound anything like them, then they might be a good bet. theyre pretty much marketed towards younger kids who want the same type of kit as their favorite artists, and really arent too concerned about sound quality.

Has anyone ever heard of the Slingerland radio king drum kit? Well I am getting a reasonably good deal for one AUD$800 without cymbals or is it? I have been drumming for 3 years now and want to know if the kit is a begginners starters set. I am shopping for an Intermediate kit that is nice sturdy and sounds goood. I was aiming for a Yamaha.....advantage, but you know, iv'e only got so much money. Is the Yamaha way tonnes better? i really need an intermediate by next year and have been shopping around a bit.
Any inputs and replies would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

im going to assume that the Radio King is a used/vintage kit? im really not too sure about their quality (although the Radio King snares are touted as "the most recorded drum in history")... back in the day they were definitely pretty good drums. im pretty sure they werent the kind of generic kit you could buy out of the Sears catalog; real drummers actually played them. but i would probably only get them if i was looking for a vintage kit to have as more of a collectors item. both the materials and production processes of todays drums can deliver a better product, and an old kit can have lots of nagging problems that you probably dont want to deal with. so, if you dont really care for any of the nostalgia, then they are not as good as the Stage Custom and probably similar to the Tre Cool setup.

Well, Slingerland started making kits again and they are really nice. I got the opportunity to play one and it was phenominal. I really have my eye on the Broadway kit. It's about $3000 for a 3 peice shell pack. Even though that's really expensive i'd love to have it.
