|

I like Nylon, because on my cheap (well 100 dollars isn't cheap, but lower end is a better word) pasite 802 ride, if I use a wood tip, it sounds like the thin is all overtones. You can't even hear my stick hitting it. Its horrendous. That's why I like nylon.
What about you? |

| Wood tips near exclusively. I like the warmth I get from the sound. For the styles I play, I find that they sound WORLDS better than nylon, although I should still pick up a pair just in case I'm put in a situation which needs it. |

These tenor sticks are new and unusual:
I will be very interested in them if I ever got isolated tenor drums (meaning not in a drum kit or set). Tenor players really bang away rapidly on those drums these days so I can see the need for a drum stick like this. However, I am not interested in nylon tips for snare at all.
I am not pointing back at Vic Firth for that image, but here is the URL below if you care to read more:

| My main problem with nylon tips is durability. I have yet to find a pair that the tip doesn't come off within a very short time. |

Really? I think I've had that problem only once in many years of using nylon tips. What brands have you tried? Vic Firth and Pro Mark both make a pretty good nylon-tipped stick, but I imagine you've tried those. I've never tried Vater, but they intrigue me. Incidentally, the one stick in which I did lose a tip was from a Regal Tip marching stick. |

In my personal opinion, nylon tips are better for cymbals, because they give you the nice short ring, and really high pitched that I desire - at least my ZBT doesn't sound that bad when I use a nylon on it.
Wood on the other hand is unsupassed when it comes to hitting snares & toms. They have that nice warm sound, but when it comes to hitting the cymbals, they project loud crashes - which is good - but my ZBT hurts my ears so I usually use a nylon when I tried to play some jazzy/rocky syle...
Anyways, they're there for different purposes so experiment and have both!!!! |

I liked the attack of the Nylon on hats/ride but that added value dissappears the first time a nylon nub hits your bassist in the back of the head in the middle of a song.
I have tried a half dozen varieties (VF, Zil, PM, Round tip, Conical Tip...) and the minute I head up into the medium high volume the tips become shrapnel. |

Well... I like wood best, but i Practise with nylon, so I don't break them THAT often. Now I play with "Regal Tip Porcaro" - Jeff Porcaro's signature sticks... They are great to rock/pop/funk, but you can't play heavy with'em, so I use Zildjan 5a nylon/wood (depends) to play heavy _________________ Born by the drums, live by the drums, die by the drums...

hmm... I had been using the Vic Firth Rock Crusher Nylons, but now they have been discontinued, I use the Vic Firth Metal Nylons, and only about twice in the last 2 years had the tip come off... what do you do to the sticks that they lose the tip so often |

I think aluminum drumsticks are best, do you agree?

Thanks, I just started drumming about eight months ago (I'm just a beginner) so I figured that name suited me.

beginner is not really quite average, but I think its still fine.
I think I lost my nylon tip so i don't know how often my top falls/breaks off.
All I know is, my wood stick is still in its place except that it's in a pretty bad shape now...
nothing is smooth and it's somewhat squareish on the top... i don't know why... |
